A lecturer at a Christian university in West Java, Indonesia has been praised after a photo of him sharing snacks with Muslim students who were fasting went viral on the Internet.

Rusli Ginting, who teaches management compensation at the Maranatha Christian University in Bandung on Fridays, was seen sharing snacks to his fasting students on a Facebook post that has been shared more than 7,900 times, The Jakarta Post reported.

His 22-year-old student Andi Triwahyudi shared the photo online. He said the lecturer stopped his lesson when he heard the Azan—the call to prayer—and told his fasting students to break their fasts. He also gave his students a 30-minute break, went to the staff room and came back with boxes of chocolate bread and tea.

Despite the 30-minute break, Triwahyudi pointed out that Ginting was able to end the class at the usual time of 7:30pm.

Internet observers applauded the lecturer’s actions, describing them as a good example of promoting harmony.
