An Indonesian factory worker accused of delivering a newborn son then throwing him out from the second floor of a building in Malaysia on Sunday has been remanded in custody.

Around 5pm on Sunday a restaurant owner was shocked to find a naked newborn boy lying in the middle of a road in Kajang in Selangor, next to some steel rods intended for construction purposes. Neighbors had heard a loud bang just before he found the baby, China Press reported.

The man quickly wrapped the baby in a cloth and took him to a nearby clinic, which referred him to Kajang Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, where he remains in a critical condition.

Malaysian police arrested the Indonesian mother by 11.30pm on the same day, for allegedly abandoning a child under the age of 12. She is due to stay in custody until July 1 while police make further inquiries.

A preliminary police investigation found that the accused gave birth to the boy then allegedly threw him out from the second floor of a building at Jalan Hentian 4 near Kajang bus terminal.

The mother is a migrant worker who arrived in Malaysia about two months ago. She allegedly hid her pregnancy from her factory boss.

The actual motive for her allegedly dumping her baby is still under investigation.
