Police are investigating two possible cases of attempted child abduction from a park in Kowloon’s Kwun Tong. According to Kwun Tong District Councillor Tang Wing-chun, two incidents have happened in Laguna Park, one last month and one early this month, the Apple Daily reported.
In the first suspected case on March 20, a woman and her one-year-old son were in the park, near the private residential housing project Laguna City in Kwun Tong district, when a 70-year-old local man lifted up the boy and tried to leave the area with him.
The boy’s mother chased the man and took her son back, but the elderly man claimed he knew the boy’s grandparents. The mother did not report the case to police, but told the district councillor about the incident.
The second suspected case happened in the evening of April 4 when a 34-year-old mother took her 4-year-old son to the park. After playing for a while, she lost sight of her son, Sing Pao reported.
She then saw an elderly man holding her son’s hand and walking out of the park. She ran up to the man, who told her the boy was his grandson and said he was taking him home. When she told the man she was the boy’s mother, he left the park.
The woman reported the case to police. The crime squad from Kwun Tong Police Station classed the case as miscellaneous as no crime had been committed, but said they would investigate the matter.
