A Filipino domestic worker in Hong Kong was forced to wait outside her employers’ apartment for four hours on her rest day because she was not trusted with a key.
On Christmas Day, Mary, who has been working for these employers for six months, was forced to wait outside of their apartment in Tiu Keng Leng, Sai Kung, after spending her rest day with friends, sunwebhk.com reported.
A neighbor saw Mary and let her wait in that apartment because it was cold outside. Mary’s employers finally returned home four hours later. However, she was put to work when they arrived.
The employers have not given Mary a key to the apartment because they do not trust her and have imposed a strict 7pm curfew on her rest days. She said they usually came home late but she still chose to stick to her curfew.
Mary said she did not want to terminate her contract over the matter of not having a key. She said she would put up with these employers until her contract expires, and in the meantime would try to get them to give her a key.

Virginia Rosario but ofcoursed u need money to pay for the agency and to process your paper once again and do all the medical and any other things like first timer go back and fort to the agency so its better to finish her contract and find another employer after. God bless you kabayan.
Many employers do the same especially to new ones. That’s an option for the employer to give or not to give the key.But they should be considerate enough not to let the helper wait that long knowing she’s home at 7pm. Or at least instruct her to wait for them somewhere she can stay out from the cold weather.

Thats very positive view,we should all do have this.Ako din start no key and early curfew and cleaning house pagkauwi.Like you Isaid to myself this is not a big deal and reason for me to terminate my contract.For 4 yrs.no key with curfew am still here in Hk.Keep up the good spirit.God is good.

Most of employer not trusting for their keys, they think they have a million to lose, I experience that, I’m very sorry for their stupid attitude, but now I’m living in such a nice hotel alone pay by my employer…

The Immigration should know this kind of situation to helpers..so that employers should be punish..this is already against the law..they should treat their helper as part of the family coz you live in just one roof…to my co helpers fight for your rights don’t let your employer tolerate you.
