An employer faced a heavy backlash from netizens after she posted a Facebook message criticizing her domestic worker for running up her water bill by bathing too often.
The employer, likely a woman judging from her nickname “Little Cloud,” wrote in a post in Chinese on the Facebook page of Support Group for HK Employers with FDHs that she was angered by her maid bathing at 9pm on Saturday and again early on Sunday before going out for her weekly holiday.
She said such bathing habits would result in a heavy cost burden from her water bill. She also asked other employers in the group whether their domestic workers had similar habits of bathing before and after sleep.
The post was screen-captured and reposted on the Brother-Sister Facebook Club page. Little Cloud was slammed for her unkind comments about her domestic worker.
Many netizens said domestic workers had a right to take a shower when they wished, while any employer who tried to stop them was being unreasonable. Some said Little Cloud should praise her maid for being careful with her personal hygiene.
Taking a shower two or three times a day is normal if it is summer or the indoor ventilation is poor, they said.
Little Cloud was also slammed by netizens for creating a “control freak” image for Hong Kong employers. They added that the Water Supplies Department was providing water to Hong Kong residents at a low price.

Lucky for them they have aircon but kunyangs dont have so have to take bath offten ! (Grave ang pawis at amoy kaya!)
For sure this particular employer has a poor hygiene, she shouldbe proud and appreciate that her maid has a good hygiene habit because that follows all in her way of cleaning the house and preparing meals
i am lucky that i got a good employer,alow me to take a bath every morning when i wakeup,and before bedtime .Because even them everytime they go down when they go back home they take a bath too.????

Wtf. Any domestic helper have the right to have shower any time as they wish. There is no laws that state how many times you should have shower. Would you like your helper to be unhygienic? Yes She is your helper but that doesn’t mean you should treat her anyway you like. She is still a human being. Just put yourself in her shoe and see how will you feel. That fxxking rediculous. If you think you need to pay more for the water bill, you should not be qualify to hire a domestic helper in the first place. My domestic helper have been working for me almost 6 years and I have no problem how many times she take shower. I treated her like part of my family. Remember if you treat someone well, they will treat you well in return. At the end of the day we are all human being.

Ya employer .. if u can’t treat ur maid like ur family and treath them like human being .. why u have to employee them and makes their life like they are living at hell , they are human .. far away from family .. if u are at their position .. what u gonna feel .. everyday get scolded .. work overtime and sometimes get yell for no reason or stupid reason that sane human being will not do that , if u afraid that they will eat ur food or makes ur water bill run up do not employee them do all ur house chores by yourself .. such a shame human being
