Police are investigating an animal-cruelty case in which 10 turtles in an outdoor pond at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on Hong Kong Island were stabbed with pencils.
At 10am, a 34-year-old staff member reported to the police that he had found that several turtles known as red-eared sliders who were living in the pond had been injured, Oriental Daily reported.
The turtles had been stabbed with pencils.
Police officers and staff from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals arrived at the hospital to investigate. They found that six of the turtles were dead and four had been seriously injured.
This is not the first time this has happened at the hospital. One turtle was found dead and another injured on September 20, with wounds suspected to have been inflicted by pencils. One turtle was found in a zipper storage bag, Ta Kung Pao reported.
Police have classified the cases as animal cruelty and have not ruled out the possibility that both attacks were made by the same person.
No one has been arrested yet.
