A 21-year-old engineering student slipped and drowned at Bandra Bandstand in Mumbai while talking a selfie.

According to a media report, Meenakshi Priya Rajesh, who was from Tamil Nadu, was at the bandstand trying to take a selfie with her mother and sister at around 3.30 pm on Monday when the tragedy happened.

Two hours later, her body was recovered near the Bandra-Worli sea link by local fishermen and fire brigade officials.

The student came to Mumbai on April 30 with her elder sister, father and mother after her final exams, police said.

Ignoring a warning from her father, she went ahead and took a selfie, at which point a wave hit her, causing her to slip on some rocks and she was swept out to sea, the report said.
