Ang 26-taong-gulang na biktima na si Micah Roth Russell-Ware ay naninirahan sa isang bahay sa village sa Tong Fuk sa Lantau Island kasama ang kanyang anak na lalaki, ang kanyang nakababatang kapatid na babae at isang Pilipinong domestic worker, iniulat ng Sing Tao Daily.
Naglakad ang biktima kasama ang kanyang nakababatang kapatid na babae at apat na kaibigan sa Ng Tung Chai sa Tai Po noong Biyernes. Sa panahon ng paglalakad nawala ang kanyang balanse at nahulog na kanyang kinamatay habang kumukuha ng litrato.
Nauunawaan na ang ina ni Micah ay isang Pilipino na may asawa na isang banyagang lalaki sa Hong Kong, kung saan isinilang ang kanilang dalawang anak na babae. Ang mag-asawa sa ibang pagkakataon ay diborsiyado.
Si Micah, na nag aral sa internasyonal na paaralan at nagsasalita ng napakahusay na Ingles, ay may matatag na trabaho sa serbisyo sa customer sa isang institusyong pinansyal. Ang kanyang anak ay ipinanganak apat na taon na ang nakalilipas. Gustung-gusto niya ang mga panlabas na aktibidad at hiking.
Ayon sa kanyang babaeng landlord, na naninirahan sa kaparehong nayon sa bahay, si Micah at ang kanyang kapatid na babae ay umuupa ng flat sa loob ng higit sa 10 taon, at isang magaling at magalang na babae. Ang landlord at iba pang mga kapitbahay sa nayon ay sinasabing malungkot dahil sa aksidente.
Nang makipag-ugnay ang isang nakababatang kapatid ni Micah sa isang reporter mula sa pahayagan, sinabi niya na nawawalan siya ng paraan kung paano pangalagaan ang pamangkin niya.
