Indonesian authorities suspect that a crocodile may have killed a plantation worker after his dead body surfaced.

The man named Subli, 35, had gone fishing with a colleague named Agus Riyanto in a canal located at a coconut farm owned by his employer, PT Riau Sakti United Plantations (RSUP) in Indragiri Hilir, Riau on April 10, The Jakarta Post reported.

At around 10pm on the same day, Subli went to wash his hands in the canal, and that proved to be the last time Riyanto saw his friend.

Soon after, Riyanto heard a loud noise and Subli was nowhere to be found. Riyanto described the noise as like something falling into the water.

Riyanto rushed to the spot that Subli was seen and saw air bubbles floating on the surface of the water. Suspecting a crocodile had grabbed his friend, he rushed home and told a security guard for RSUP about the incident.

Local police were notified about the matter. Police officers, volunteers and military personnel immediately started searching for Subli, whose body was found the next day, April 11, about 3 kilometers from the spot where he went fishing.

Subli’s remains were delivered to his family in the Pengaliran district after an autopsy was performed by a local community health center.
