Noong nakaraang taon, si Joseph Manuel Hunter at ang dalawang iba pa ay nahatulan ng pagpatay sa isang babaeng Pilipino. Inihayag ni Hunter ang dalawa, sina Adam Samia at Carl David Stillwell, ay binayaran niya ng US $ 35,000 at binigyan sila ng mga armas, iniulat ng ABS-CBN News.
Naglakbay si Samia at Stillwell sa Pilipinas noong unang bahagi ng 2012 at pinanood ang kanilang target na Filipina sa loob ng ilang buwan. Ibinigay sa kanila ni Hunter ang impormasyon tungkol sa biktima at mga sandata upang gamitin sa pagpatay.
Noong Pebrero 12, 2012, pinalo nila Samia at Stillwell ang babae nang maraming beses at itinapon ang kanyang katawan sa isang tumpok ng basura. Ang dalawa ay bumalik sa North Carolina sa US matapos ang pagpatay at nanatili doon hanggang sa kanilang pag-aresto sa 2015.
Ang tatlo ay nahatulan noong nakaraang taon matapos ang 12-araw na pagsubok at singil sa murder-for-hire, na nagdadala ng isang mandatoryong sentensiya sa habangbuhay.
Noong Huwebes, si Hunter ay sinentensiyahan ng buhay sa isang pederal na bilangguan para sa kanyang tungkulin sa plot ng murder-for-hire. Sinabi ng legal na kinatawan ni Hunter na si Arnold J. Levine na ang post-traumatic stress disorder ay isang matinding factor sa hatol kay Hunter.
