A high-speed ferry with 150 people on board slammed into a pier on Hong Kong Island on Monday. No injuries were reported.
At around 4:15pm, police received a report that a Turbojet ferry, which carried 140 passengers and ten crew members from Macau to Hong Kong, crashed into the No. 4 and No. 5 pier at the Central and Western District Promenade, news website HK01.com reported. A glass fence at the piers was destroyed.
A spokesperson of Shun Tak-China Travel Ship Management Limited said the accident happened because of a malfunction of the right engine, while the left turbo jet also stopped functioning due to a blockage from rubbish picked up in the harbor.
The ferry was then swept out by the current and hit the pier a few times. No passengers or crew members were injured, and the ferry captain reported the accident to the relevant government authorities. Police are now investigating.
