Only one day after Vietnamese border authorities intercepted alleged heroin smugglers in another province, customs officials in Vietnam’s Nghe An Province arrested an alleged smuggler attempting to carry drugs across the border between Vietnam and Laos.

Lo Van Duc, 29, was arrested by border guards at the Hanh Dich border crossing to Laos on February 25, Viet Nam News reported. He was reportedly caught with 4,800 synthetic drug tablets in the town of Kim Son in Que Phong District.

Just a day earlier, two people in Dien Bien Province were arrested for allegedly transporting six cakes of heroin. The two, Lau A Cau and Lau A Nu, hail from Na San A Village in the Xa Dung Commune.

A motorcycle, three cell phones, a homemade firearm and some ammunition were also seized by the police.

The two confessed to buying the drugs from a seller from Myanmar at the Vietnam-Laos border area.

Both cases remain under investigation by the authorities.
