An Arab man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a Filipino domestic worker after he was lured to the Philippines Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to the victim, identified only as Lina, she was set to be brought to her recruitment agency in Riyadh to be transferred to another employer, GMA News reported.
However, the Filipina was taken to a hotel by an Arab recruiter who raped her multiple times. The domestic worker later went to the Philippine Consulate to inform them of the alleged assault.
Labor Attache Nasser Munder said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration was immediately contacted to help the Filipina file a case against the suspect, who was arrested after he was lured to the Consulate.
The suspect is currently detained while the Filipina is being assisted by the OWWA to file a complaint with the police. The Filipina will also be taken to hospital for treatment and medical tests.
Munder said the Filipina’s recruitment agency will have its accreditation revoked over the abuse of the victim.
