The People’s Liberation Army is now in the middle of a reform program to transform itself into a genuine blue water navy and an air force capable of military posturing and combat above and on the high seas.
The stated goal is to mount a swift takeover of Taiwan before the US can amass its plans and vessels to intervene.
A report published by the Institute for National Defense and Security Research has urged the Taiwanese military to formulate contingency plans centered around its “asymmetric warfare” tactics and ramp up its defense of key infrastructure and military structures, “before everything is too late.”

Since the PLA reforms and transition would take time to bear fruit, the next three to five years are Taiwan’s last opportune time to prioritize a military build-up and make arms deals from and defense cooperation pacts with de facto allies like Japan and the US.
The report contains a list of the PLA’s tactical assets that can pose the gravest threats to the island.
Excluding the Y-8 and Y-9 transportation planes that have participated in long-range exercises near Taiwan since 2015, the PLA Air Force has also flown sorties near Taiwan’s eastern airspace at least 12 times in the past 12 months.
Some of these aerial circumnavigations also involved the modernized H-6K bomber, which is capable of piercing through the Second Island Chain to menace the US territory of Guam.
The PLA Navy’s first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, was spotted this summer conducting anti-submarine and anti-air missions in massive war games in both the East and South China seas.

Ongoing Chinese efforts to extend the range of its cruise and ballistic missiles, and to improve its satellite monitoring and guidance systems, could also threaten Japan and US forces stationed on the outlying islands of Japan as well as Guam, hampering the US’s first response to any emergency in the Taiwan Strait.
The PLA’s display of DF-21D anti-ship missiles, DF-26C ballistic missiles and CJ-10 cruise missiles in its blue-water naval exercises, as well as their extensive deployment in Fujian province across Taiwan, are all indicative of the force’s ability to launch medium to long-range strikes.
The Type 095 nuclear assault submarines, Type 096 ballistic missile submarines and China’s indigenous fifth-generation fighter the J-20 all represent a big boost to the PLA’s anti-access/area denial capabilities.

Hi, Winston,
Do you, Mr. Winston, know that the Americans are the leader in fables and fairytales? I.e., fables as in Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter?
And somthing something Thrones?
Man! How the greater American public live for these kinds of a marlarkey.
In adition, had I told any of you here before, ever, how my three and four year old Grandkids and their age group are so totally sold on the idea of ”Frozen”, of Princess this and that, and get this, of a Princess Kenyatta Tiana?
Imagine that eh?
How so so very imaginative these Americans.
Also, had you watched the newest Bob Lazer’s Area 51 S-5 ET UFO experience, yet? Well, you better if you’re so into the fables they feed you in the US.
Better still, remember “One Step For Man And A Big Leap For Mankind? All of it by tge powers of a xhorse drawn carriage…
Errr.. Sorry, I meant to say on the back of a naked oxen?
Hehe!

*** PLA to discourage ***
Source, declassified Chinese documents of just five years back:
It was suggested that when Bill Clinton ordered CV’s to the coast of Taiwan as a statement to the Chinese that, Deng Xiaoping, it was said scrambled squadrons of J-7’s to buzzed Bill’s CV’s on a constant basis.
Ever heard of that one, people?
It was said also that no F-14’s, 18’s, or any other US aircrafts were launched to challenge the Chinese at the time. My speculation is that Bill was trying to avoid an international incident hence ordered the CV’s to not take evassive action.
What am I trying to say here?
Well, it was not that long ago that the PLAN also dispatched a couple of 052 missile frigates to help two of same from our American friends to navigate freely and safely in the SCS.
In other words: we still have it.

Hing Kong.
Love HK. It’s call soft power. Beijing didn’t want Hong Kong citizens as collateral damages hence wagered for diplomacy to work.
Anyway, 2047 (50 years I think) is but a stones throw away. Margaret Thatcher and the British Parliament knows full well that there’s no other alternative for the UK but to live up to the promise they’ve made.
China is not Argintina and HK is not the Falkland Islands. HK qualifies as a chapter in the national salvation of China. She willing will go all out to make crystal clear the case that Hong Kong is Chinese and MUST ULTIMATELY BE CHINESE.
In case people say we’re full of it: prior to the date of the supposed return, Deng Xiaoping, it was claimed, had already put the Guangdong military region on high alert just in case the Brits go back in their words.
K, while I can understand the emotions and tears from Charles eyes during the ceremony of the hand over of the territory because [the rightful return of the territory back to China] I agree is a heart wrenching moment for any Brit. But, the returning of the territory back to China is written in stone and as such, the kinds of a heartache and price that one needs to pays for being too attached and for having fallen out of love is painful.
When the party is over it is over. Time to stop living in the past. The past is history. A whole new era of relationship with China is the new future.

Integration:
I think the most powerful weapon in the Chinese arsenal is NOT its awesome kick ass Tom Cruise Top Gun’ish F-14 and 15 CLASS of OVERLY DRAMATISED weaponry’s…
I think Chinese advances in state of the arts SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, and SPACE EXPLORATION, is going to be the legacy which will win the HEARTS, MINDS, NATIONAL PRIDE, and the AWARENESS IN TGE TAIWANESE MASSES, ESPECIALLY IN FUTURE GENERATIONS, Taiwan’s true identity and heritage.

Yes, it is “CHINESE PRIDE” — not Chinese Top Guns — that the Tsai Ing-wen brood and the Americans which are holding them hostage, needs to serious consideration and priority.

The aim of PLA is to discourage the US from even pretending that it can and willing to defend Taiwan. It may take a few more years. But China is reaching that point.Taiwan in now slowly being integrate into China development plan. The people in Taiwan do realise that. Being Chinese they are very pragmatic, choosing businesses to trouble.

we know that comrade, but they can do enough damage to the Puny Liberation Army-Navy even with out the larger weapons of the westerners

But comrade,, what if the majority of Taiwanese do not want integration, do you agree with the CCP they MUST be forced ?
Taiwan can’t win a war with China just like how China is unable to invade Taiwan successfully, there’s no reason for Taiwan to allow itself to be annexed. They see what happened in Hong Kong and they choose a different course.

Wouldn`t it be far better for Taiwan to work out with the mainland the future course for reintegration, instead of spending huge amounts of money on military equipment that will only forstall for a few years the inevitable outcome? The Taiwanese can`t win a war with the mainland, better to realize that and accept it, then work on managing the outcome.
