Japan is seeking to hire more Filipinos as assistant language teachers for next year.

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program is accepting applicants for Assistant Language Teacher positions for 2019 and are looking to fill the positions with Filipinos, ABS-CBN News reported.

Interested applicants should be a Filipino citizen, hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher and possess excellent ability in both spoken and written English. They will also need to be physically and mentally fit enough to work overseas.

Those accepted for the jobs will work in public schools or local boards of education to assist in classes led by Japanese teachers of English.

According to the Philippine Embassy in Japan, a total of 94 Filipinos have been sent to Japan as assistant language teachers since 2014. In the first two years only 10 Filipinos filled such positions, with the numbers growing until so far this year there have been 40.

The Embassy expects the number of Filipinos accepted to the program to increase next year.
