Police are hunting for a man who allegedly drove off with a total of HK$3.2 million (US$407,890) worth of goods from two separate companies in two days.
The suspect used an identity card with the surname Wong to get a job as a driver for a logistics company in Ta Kwu Ling, the New Territories last Tuesday, Apple Daily reported.
At 8am on Monday, the company called the police to report that the driver went missing after driving off with HK$300,000 (US$38,236) worth of electronic equipment and HK$1.5 million (US$191,179) of leather products.
When the boss later found the truck in Tsuen Wan, the New Territories it was empty.
The second case involved a logistics company in Lok Ma Chau, the New Territories when the company hired a 47-year-old man surnamed Wong as a driver on Saturday.
The new driver was supposed to drive US$180,000 worth of smart doorbell products from Lok Ma Chau checkpoint to the airport late on Monday night, but the driver could not be reached after taking over the goods from a mainland counterpart.
After checking the GPS system, the boss found the truck was in Yuen Long, the New Territories but the driver was not there and the truck was empty.
After an initial investigation, police believed that both cases involved the same man who used another person’s identity card and driving license to get jobs from the two companies.
Police said the identity card was a lost card.
Police also believed that the suspect might be related to two other similar cases that happened in October 13 this year and August last year, Oriental Daily reported.
It was understood that the two separate companies lost a total of HK$15.4 million worth of goods. On those occasions the suspect used an identity card with the surname Law.
