A Vietnamese official was arrested last week for adjusting the results of a national high school examination in Ha Giang, Vietnam.
Vu Trong Luong, the deputy head of Examination and Quality Management under the Ha Giang Province Department of Education and Training, was charged with abusing his position and power, the Voice of Vietnam Online reported.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, more than 300 test results of 114 students were adjusted. Several students ended up scoring 20 points higher than their original results.
Luong is suspected of tampering with the results as his daughter and two nephews were among the 114 students who took the exam. However, he denied involvement in the scam.
Ha Giang police issued a three-month temporary detention warrant for Luong. Vu Van Su, the director of the Ha Giang Province Department of Education and Training, said the department would take responsibility for the incident.
The national examination determines whether a student will graduate from high school and be admitted to the university of their choice.
