A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.

Mike Foo I do understand what you mean….you mean to those who will fall in love to his son..maybe she will do the same thing

Mike Foo i got your point sir jealous mom
If you don’t like your maid don’t ruin their future ,release them to find another job because it’s not your gain even you successfully destroy them, what a shame of you after caregiver did help you for many years
At that very moment the helper must ask to the police officers to check for the finger print of the stolen ring once said by the horrible employer! So in that case might prove who’s finger print is there. How pity… 7 years of serving this kind of horrible employer it’s so unfair doing this kind of thing to her.
Mga Walang utang na loob…
Grabe naman ang amo na yan ng dahil sa selos …nd kasalanan ni kabayan na mapalapit sa alaga nya… coz Filipina are very loving person …
Mike Foo….over protective of her son? Then, better she must take care of her son personally….
Mike Foo they’re just shaken up with the situation, which is reality also how those some bosses treated their helpers like us..Like how this some boss can make their own law beyond the law towards their helper, that we helper only knew we came here, to work toearn money Nd send back to our beloved family. They just want to voice out as an eye opener to those close minded employers.. ended i can’t blame my fellow filipinos too, feeling sorry if you feel you’ve been triggered by their comments… I recon just read and leave it if you know u din’t mean anything aboit it..☺
