A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.

this happened to also but on grandmother she hates me so much bcoz the kids was too close to me shes trying to destroy my reputation and and shame me anywhere in public before anything get worst i already had break my contract not stating the true reason. anyways this is my learning here.

Maybe the reason why they did that to their maid is that they don’t want to pay the LS to their maid that’s why they make trouble and they accused diamond ring…
What a sh*t mind employer. Don’t revenge , just talk to her nicely and let her go back to Philippines or can find other employer. If you refuse the law. We, OFW came here to serve you (employers) not to give trouble to your family.

Sa loib ng pitong taon nagtrabaho at tinulungan ka sa pagpapalaki sa anaj mo. Hindi lang dahil sa sinuswelduhan sya dahil mismong ang anak mo na ang tumestigo na sya ang nag aruga sa kbya. Yan ang isang sakit ng ibang mga among intsik. Iaasa sa katuling lahat tapis kaoag mas naging close sa katulong sya ang pagbubuntunan tsk. Seguro naman sapat na ung ebidensya na ung bata ay nagsalita para mapakawalan na ung katulong nila.
Rubbished mind… I myself have been experienced that boys I took care they closer to me than her Mom…my employer was very happy because they know I took good care off them, even they’re away from them and they’re happy living with.
