A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.

Pardon that… That Twat mother is very cruel, We all think that she trying to avoid paying her helper for 7 yrs.. its a MUST and it written in every contract of domeatic helper. HK POLICE should take considreation regarding this, specially if the son of that evil woman testified that shes honest and very loving Aunty for them.. UNACCEPTABLE.. True I know an employer who did the same thing to her helper as a revenge, when the helper wants to leave.A very well known family in Hk. But luckily she withdraw the case later.

Why some of employer like that I’m so upset because here also in UAE first time I work in middle East..I also experience why they don’t like them their kids bonding with the maid so very complicated.instead their make happy because they like us but jelous..really this is the best worse experience I ever have for 11yrs work abroad..sorry for that.

Oh my! What do they expect if we looked after a child for 7 yrs? We Filipino’s are more loving person especially if the child listens to us and respect us. And what they expect if they just leave it to the maid completely the care and needs of the children. They expect a bond more than the maid…children are children as they grew up they realize who are the people around them that they can easily turn too, and one of them are the maids whom they are with most of the time.
