A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.
Read: Filipina maid held for ‘stealing diamond ring from employer’

Mike Foo ,if you are afraid for the out come between the maid and the son, then fire her..send her home…u know, instead of being thankful to the.maid for being care…why do such a cruel thing or distroy her lives…this is not fair…we came here to work and earn a living as will as love what we are doing…what we as a helper needs consideration and concern…
Oh my, to all LS holder be careful, this is the tactic, for all you’ve good work to them.. if thAt helper’s of yours is stealer she will make sure to sell your ring’s, how come after 7yrs of working, this incident happen?live out law to all immigrant workers
Mike Foo as a mother we do the same, but I know u must agree too if you scared about the relationship beeing build in between, at the first place she must not give the whole time spend of her kid to the helper. She must give special time thu they are working boss too. She can’t blame the helper, helper only knew she did her job as she has been paid..we filipinos can understand verbally rather than showing their unexplainable attitudes towards ud.
Utak ipis talaga tong amo ng maid kung anong lahi meron, inggit at inggit kasi di marunong magmahal ng totoo yung maid tunay na mi malasakit
A helper is someone who look after her son.. She is still the mother.. Why she felt jealous.. She won’t take her son back to Philippines Whe she retire.. She should be at least grateful that her helper love her son . After all those years of her service in her household, she did that to her.. That sad ???? for Tha part of a Filipina..
stupid employer.
First thing that gotten in my mind.
Jun Jun Camacho time and again I said read my comments with your senses before you shoot. Did I mention anything about putting the maid in jail.
The importantant for them is money amd diamond dont care about thier son ????????????????????
It took 7 years for you to discover she’s a thief? And even your sons going against you for framing her? I’m 100% sure she’s framed by the employer!
Mike Foo
Then putting her on behind bars make sense for you even she’s innocent
The only mistake she done is to take care much of that family or maybe just maybe loved them too much
Grabe naman kayo intindihin nyo muna ang sinabi nua bago layo magcomment. Very clear naman. Tsk tsk tsk…
Haha miserable life!
Naisip ko din yan.kase tumagal ng 7 years
Maria Fe Fortit Exactly! The employer could have talked to her helper in a nice way. And jealousy to her sons attention and love over her helper is a very sick and pathetic reason to do such evil act.
yeah I agree you Sir,but supposed to be she no need accused her of stealing, just directly terminate her f she fell jealous towards their maid, this insane attitude I’m really pity on her ,hope the truth will reveal early,.pray lng kabayan.be strong

Jenny Pamittan We as a human beings don’t think and do things alike. I agreed on what you said on ungrateful but you also mentioned natural. Natural some parents think they are losing the attention of their children to strangers. Or we can say jealous. There are parents who needs all the attention from their favourite especially son. And I think is kind human nature is not only in one country but in the world.
Mike Foo..before u judge others about their capacity of understanding of what u mean..try to correct your grammar first..the question, (Did I said)..is grammatically wrong..
Mike Foo.I agree. Feel sorry for her son girlfriend to be if the mothers attitude like that.
