A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.

If the said employer unwilling to employ her, just sent her back as cases of planted-maybe is damaging to her reputation and the filipina domestic helper as a whole. We are flexible if our employer don’t like us anymore, just send directly from which country she belong. Please do not make such troublesome to your employee as we pride too. We can for other employer anywhere.
Mike Foo then better yet ! Fire the filipina and she will take over what the filipina duties so simple .. The problem is the mindset of people they think it because we are just a maid they can manipulate nbd treat as like a trash
