A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.

Mike Foo Since birth of your child if you giving to the maid the taking care of your child until when they grow up.. The attachment of your child the maid is very close.. Because feeling of your child her maid is like her 2nd mother of the house.. Because all the need of the child her maid provided his/her food etc… That’s why the child very close to maid..All my 3 children they call maid mama or MOTHER..

My is a very simple English good enough for everyone to understand it but if some of those Filipino still set their minds on thinking something bad like they are having an affair or whatever I couldn’t do much to explain. Mike Foo … those kind of closeness with family housekeeper is very common …who else takes care of the kids … most of the time they are cared from birth … and there is nothing wrong that housekeepers and the children become close … we have a housekeeper and she been with our families for over 25 years … she has raise my nephews ands nieces and they call her mama Susan … we didn’t find anything wrong with that … we embraced it knowing that we have had a trusted worker whom we considered a family member for over 25 years … her loyalty and commitment is unquestionably … we love her with all our HEART!

Oh my gosh.. guys what i understand of mike foo point was because the mother was so protective to his son so she made that point of messing up the helper’s life..i just remembered my former employer..why do so local employers not all are sooooo selfish, rude, narrow-minded. Acted in evil way against helpers. Why!!!feel very pitty for the helper who was accused. May God in Jesus name be with her.

Don’t tell these ladies to use their ‘thinking brain’ when you yourself obviously have awful English and have either not clearly said what you are trying to put across or you actually believe what she did was okay because she was ‘upset’

Mindset of that monther is wrong. If she is jealous with their maid getting more attached to their son, she should talk to her. It is really unfair for the maid who had served them honestly for how many years and took care of their son well. This employer is so ungrateful with the maid dedication in serving their family for 7 long years!

what makes you say that? do you know them, that the helper have an affair to the son, its normal to the kidz to become more closer to their yaya because they do everything for them from waking up to putting them to bed.

ladies, ang sabi po ni Mike Foo, over protective ung mom sa anak niya kaya ginawa nya kahit pa against the law..at sabi nia, mag ingat yung mga babaeng magkakagusto/liligawan ng anak niya kasi pahihirapan ng nanay ang buhay nga babaeng magkakagusto/magugustuhan nga anak niya.hindi niya po sinabi na may Affair c Kabayan na helper saka yung anak.
