A Filipina domestic helper has stated in court that she was shocked when her employer pulled a diamond ring from the pocket of her backpack on April 24.
Jeambreth Algura made the statement during her trial in Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Court on July 10 for allegedly stealing two diamond rings owned by the female employer she had served for the past seven years, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The defendant told the court that her employer Lau Yi-ki sent her on an errand that day. When she came back to find two police officers in the apartment, she noticed that her umbrella, which she usually put in the pocket of her backpack, was in the wrong place.
The defendant said the officers informed her that she was being investigated over the loss of her employer’s two rings.
The defendant said Lau opened her luggage and spilled her personal belongings onto the living room floor.
Then, the employer opened her backpack and did the same, in doing so discovering one of the two missing rings and allegedly spotting the other.
When the police officers asked Algura her how the rings got into her backpack, she said she was shocked to be suspected of stealing.
Upon cross-examination by the prosecution lawyer, the defendant mentioned she was told once by Lau’s elder son, who lived in a separate unit, that his mother wanted to take revenge on her because his younger brother was closer to the maid than their mother.
The younger son, who is now 16 years old, gave evidence to the court saying the defendant is a helpful and honest domestic worker, adding that he was very close to her as the maid had been taking care of him since he was eight years old.
Algura was remanded in custody after the hearing. She has been in detention since Apr 24, when bail was refused.

Then do it by her self alone do not give the resposibility taking care of, her children to other (maid)
Mike Foo they dont comprehend to your point, actually. My view on the matter is that, yes it is good to treat your maid as family and vice versa but it is also right and proper to give distance as they are still your bosses put limitations to the closeness.
A lot of employers get jealous when there kids is closer to there helpers come on mother pls take care of your kids feed them, cook there food don’t rely all to the helpers your own obligation as parent
Hahaha .funny man
Jealosy.always like this..they ask u to mind their kids..once they are close to helper parents not happy
Shitty..work for 7 yrs?and now want to steal?u should know ur helper for 7 yrs.
They didnt understand your comment ????.
Amitaf Yognim Rajab, mike foo is telling us to be careful with this kind of employers, mean and so insecure, jealous of the attention her younger son is showing to the helper..not physical but filial love.
Mike Foo not being protective but insanely jealous of hers sons closeness to the helper.
Some of hk chinese employers are so insecure with their maid and resorts to all kinds of mean tricks, could also be that they want the maid out and does not want to pay the monies they need to pay her for years that she worked for them..
In most cases, stealing is just a frame up of employer to thier domestic helper to avoid payment of such helper benefits…
The employer thought she will be excluded in paying the longservice what she don’t know she creates more damage on herself .. nganga siya at sarili niyang anak pinagtanggol ang Filipina na yaya niya.
wow another strategy of the employer…..7 years of service?? ooohhh boy to avoid paying long service hahahaha
oh my goodness, the police should get a finger prints on the jewelries so PROBLEM should solve. Maybe the helper was set up
I’ve been reading comments above between Mike Foo and my co Flipino and it turns me out laughing hehehehe …..
But the employer itself mention on this article is more and quiet funny .What a ridiculous mind/brain she had
let the law investigate dont judge anyone yet…being in long service doesnt mean your truly honest…even your good to ur employer son…in another way if the employer want to make trouble with her then the helper should file a counter case for the employer….just wait for the investigation and hearing to complete…dont always believe on what we see.
Halatadong planted ,yan ang mga gawain .ng mga amo salbahi.
One thing more… Maybe the employer doesn’t want or can’t afford to pay the long service that’s why she did such trouble to her helper.. what do you think?
Mga buang tlaga!.. kahit gnawan mo na ng kabutihan.. ginampanan mo mabuti ang trabaho mo, ganyan pa cla mg isip.
Over protective?i dont think so….maybe got jelous bcoz the son is much closer to the maid than to his own mother.if he dont like his son closer tothe maid then take care of him .dont let the maid do things just like a mother to him.do your duty as a mother.
