A 37-year-old man named Lui was rescued by firemen after he was found dangling outside a building in Kowloon’s Mong Kok on Saturday.

At 9am he was seen climbing down from the 10th floor rooftop of a building on Tung Choi Street, news website HK01.com reported.

Onlookers watched Lui clamber down to the 8th floor, where he used his arm to break the glass in an apartment window. Debris from the broken window was captured on video falling to the ground.

The man then made his way to a laundry drying structure built onto the external wall of the building, where he proceeded to lie down.

Soon afterwards, he treated onlookers to a trapeze-artist-like performance by dangling from the bars of the structure.

During one such display he lost his grip and fell, and was only saved from certain death when his legs became trapped in the steel frame of a canopy two stories below.

As police officers and firemen cordoned off the area and prepared an air mattress on the ground, another team of firemen put up a rescue ladder. Three firefighters soon secured Lui, who screamed and yelled continuously as they took him down to safety.

After an initial investigation, a police spokesperson stated that Lui was not a resident of the building and that he may require psychiatric evaluation. The possibility that he was under the influence of drugs was also under consideration, according to a report from Oriental Daily.
