The Kuwaiti government is seeking to solve its dispute with the Philippine government over the treatment of Filipino domestic workers. On Monday, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Nasser al-Subaih said the dispute was largely a misunderstanding and exaggeration of some cases, the Manila Standard reported.
“We have taken a serious stance, but we do not believe in escalation and want to remain in direct communication to resolve the problem,” al-Subaih said.
Alan Peter Cayetano, the Philippine foreign secretary, said in a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs that the Philippine government welcomed the Kuwaiti government’s readiness to work together in addressing the concerns of Filipino domestic workers in Kuwait.
“This gesture on the part of Kuwait will allow us to move forward and hurdle the challenges we face,” Cayetano said.
“We acknowledge with heartfelt thanks the assurances of Kuwait to work with us in protecting the rights and promoting the welfare of Filipinos working there,” Cayetano said.
