An Indonesian maid stopped a possible fight between an elderly man and a 53-year-old woman he was arguing with over stray cats in the building where he lives in Singapore.

The man, in his 70s, became agitated and looked set to hit the woman, who warned him not to chase the cats away – while taking a video of him on Monday morning.

The incident took place on the ground floor of Block 503 on Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 in Ang Mo Kio district at 9.40am on May 28, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.

The woman surnamed Tan told reporters she was passing the building when she saw the accused chase away stray cats and seemingly try to attack them. She took out her cellphone to try to film his “brutal” acts.

But the elderly man ran towards Tan after he was filmed and warned by the woman, who regularly feeds cats in the neighborhood, not to bully the stray cats.

In the video, the man appeared to be emotional, using foul language and waving punches that almost hit the woman.

An Indonesian domestic worker named Yanti who was working in a neighboring block overheard the dispute and reportedly arrived at the scene barefooted, just in time to step in between the accused and the woman. The maid opened her arms to try to prevent the elderly man from hitting the woman.

Tan was grateful for the brave action of the maid, who was the only person to offer her help.

Shortly after, police arrived at the scene and eventually settled the dispute. It was learned that the man did not physically abuse the cats, but just stamped his feet to chase them away. No one was arrested.
