A Hong Kong woman who failed to pay her Filipino maid for two weeks while she was away on vacation, wrongly assuming that the maid would take a two-week holiday at the same time, was embarrassed to learn that in fact the domestic worker had stayed in the woman’s apartment continuing to do housework during the period.
Lagring, 36, said her employer had given her permission to leave the apartment while she was away on vacation in Canada, sunwebhk.com reported. However, Lagring stayed home and worked. When her employer came back, she told her maid she would not pay her for that two-week period as she thought Lagring was on leave too.
Lagring said her employer should have made it clear that she was supposed to take a leave instead of working.
“I cleaned the house, from the ceiling lamps, the walls, air-conditioner covers and filters, and I even washed the curtains,” Lagring said.
The employer was embarrassed over the misunderstanding and finally paid Lagring her salary of the two weeks.
In Hong Kong, many employers discuss their vacation plans with their domestic workers in advance so that their maids can use this as an opportunity to spend their annual leave in their home countries.

may 2 years contract tayo. at di pwede pilitin ng amo Ang helper na umuwi kung ayaw ng katulong habang nasa bakasyon sila. kung sasagutin ng libre nmn ng amo Ang gastos sa pag uwi mo sakin ok lng. pero.choice parin ng katulong kung uuwi sya. kase don lng pwede mapilitan Ang katulong umuwi kung Ang visa nya at tapos at talagang mag eexit sya nyan.
ofcourse. unless if you agreed to take vacation too while they are away. but if you stay and work, then you must get paid. but some employers don’t pay their maid even maid stayed at her boss’s house and work. employer’s reason they are away and maid has no people to serve.
Kung ayaw dn I consume ni helper ang annual leave while the employer is on vacation, wla dn cla maggawa. Eh sa hndi swak sa plano ni helper ung date ni employer na mg bakasyon eh.
With my long stay in Hong kong I often hear employers does not know about ANNUAL LEAVE which is to be paid after continous working with same employer. Hopefully that the association of employer officers must explain this to all employer bec sometimes it cause mis understanding bet the maid and employer. Employer must know what are their financial responsibilities.

Yea, my boss also asked me to take leave when they went to China for 5days,i said no,thats too much,once a week holiday is enough for me.
If the helper will also take Thier annual leave it means they still have a salary cause it’s a paid annual leave

Even if the employer is on holiday or not… Helpers should still get the monthly salary. It’s not the helpers fault why they don’t get pay when their employer is away…. Just saying….
But some employer ask thier helper to take a leave every time they`re not in hk to avoid paying it..it is ok to do that?

Sana sabihin sa labor na include sa contract agreement na pag ang employer may bakasyon at ang helper maiwan still the salary intact as the minimum wage they signed it kc unfair sa helper di babayaran pag wala cla kc reason nla wala naman cla sa house walang ginagawa ang helper still working kc andyan ka sa bahay nla full time helper ka kahit wala cla maintain parkn ang cleaning the house

But if you are a full time maid , even if you are on vacation you get paid right ?
