A 12-year-old Hong Kong boy who wrote a pubic letter thanking police for finding his lost young sister on a bus has now admitted he left his sibling on the vehicle.
The boy wrote the letter to the Hong Kong Police Force on April 20, saying he and his nine-year-old sister, along with their domestic worker, took a KMB route 1A bus heading to Kowloon’s Sau Mun Ping after school at about 4:40pm, Sing Pao Daily reported.
“I carelessly left my younger sister, who was sleeping, on the bus,” Chan wrote, adding he did not notice his sister was still on the bus when he got off with the domestic worker.
After discovering his sister was missing, he immediately informed his father before calling 999 for police assistance. The boy said three police officers who were patrolling on nearby Sau Ming Road helped him find his younger sister in 30 minutes. The girl was unhurt.
The boy said he appreciated the prompt action by police. Chan thanked the officers from the Ngau Tau Kok Police Station for their efficiency and hard work.
Media reports did not tell whether the domestic worker was blamed by her employer after the incident.
No other important news?
Maybe the domestic helper is not a filipino.
Cguto nga te…mg iiba headline nyan pg pnoy my gawa haha sbi "Filipino domestic helper leaved child on the bus"????????????
A helper’s responsibility. Even me, I will blame the helper. How come she step out in the bus with out seeing herr ward are with her.
Too much to put on the shoulders of a 12 year old. His parents should not let him carry this guilt. It will affect him psychologically. Why would they hire an adult to care for their children and then let a child take kind of self-blame? ????
acknowledgement of a mistake in a sign maturity and ability to handle responsibility. From the story these two children were returning from school as picked up by the caretaker. The boy’s actions need to be commended for 1. Understanding that he is the elder, he indeed needed to take care of the young one 2. Still being the elder he notified his father 3. He then notified Police. Actions 1-3 all evidence proper child upbringing and a manifest of the quality of education the children get as being one of the best. Now in regards the caretaker, we should blame her less irrespective of her nationality. She is human like us all and she too makes mistakes. Yes, she must have observed one child was missing as soon as she got off the bus, however, none of us knows her situation, she might have passed by the market to do shopping, she might have rushed to school after a day’s long work. She might have been tired or exhausted none knows. Whatever, the situation she was in, none knows but what was vital was 1. coordinate the whereabouts of the missing sister 2. Blaming the carehelper doesnot show a good example to the children. Yes she errored but that can only be done in the abscence of the children. These children see these helpers as their second ‘parents’, so there is literally no need to scold a carehelper in the presence of the children. To the boy, thank you for loving your sister. Thank you for being appreciative to the Police that responded to your call. A word of thanks means a lot. To the parent, thank you for morals and example you teach to the children, for they have indeed learnt.
