FAW Group, a Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company, is partnering with Internet giant Tencent to conduct R&D in the area of high-level automatic driving, The Paper reported.

The cooperation between the two firms will focus on The Internet of Cars and big data. The relevant results will be first applied to the Red Flag brand cars of China FAW.

Red Flag is China’s first domestic car brand and was formerly the official automobile of top Chinese leaders.

Also, the two companies will carry out vigorous cooperation and jointly develop auto-driving solutions and L3/L4 level auto-driving models for mass production.

This is the second time in a week that Tencent has signed a cooperation agreement with a car company. Earlier on April 12, Tencent announced a deal with Changan Automobile to explore the network of connected vehicles.
