A Filipino domestic worker in Saudi Arabia is seeking help from the Philippine government after she allegedly was not paid for one year.
Mary Jane Abogadie, who went to Riyadh in 2014, told her aunt Lilian Escalora that her employer also was not allowing her to return to the Philippines, ABS-CBN News reported.
Escalora told radio program DZMM Lingkod Pamilya on Wednesday that her niece’s contract ended in 2016 but she was forced to stay on by her employers. She said Abogadie serves 23 people on her own in the household and has not received her salary for one year.
Escalora said her niece was not fed proper meals and was locked in the house by her employers. Her passport was also allegedly confiscated.
Abogadie has already asked for assistance from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh but is still in her employer’s home. The employer apparently said she can leave once the two newly-hired domestic workers who will replace her have arrived.
Josephine Tobia, welfare officer at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), promised to help Abogadie and ensure she is repatriated as soon as possible.
Tobia said OWWA will get in touch with Abogadie’s recruitment agency to find out why she had continued working for her employer despite her contract having ended in 2016.

I am a christian like you Ron Enriques but I don’t agree with your ipinion, look at your five fingers? Are they the same? I mean religion is not the problem.
bwahahaha carelessness. good for you
the problem is most of that money will be used for her husband’s brain operation
Rauff Halday Majority are not like you. Our govt should put a total ban on sending maids to other countries. It’s not worth all sacrifices.
Please don’t expatriate any for replacement but instead file against her employera so she gets justice and be paid of her services for a year. They have to pay her triple at least for serving 23 people!
I hope this family is banned from hiring household help. Please ban the agency as well for not helping the housemaid of her sad plight.
I’m sorry to say we had a good employer here in Saudi Arabia, our employer is kind people, even their children’s, all I can say is not all employer is the same like our finger ,, its not even so are people, I’m working with my employer for 18 now, and my co workers is 28 years, and her daughter in law also is with us, so please you have to understand that people or employer is not the same attitude,,
Mostly mga arab employer mapagsamantala gusto nila 5 to 10 years.ka sa poder nla bago uuwi buti sana kong mgbabayad ng vacation leave eh wala.kuripot dn dpa tinutupad kontrata kya yong iba siraan na ng bait dahil namimis pamilya
Samantha Mamac Esclamado Thank you dear
Criselda Cordero Montebon Thank you dear
These are the types of problem that Phil. Embassy should be concerned of immediately.
Rauff Halday good day sir..we know that not all Muslims are bad..but most of the employer in middle east is totally bad..they treat their workers as a slave..but were still thankful that in 100% of Arabs people only 30 % I guess is good..and u belong to that 30 percent….thank u for treating our kababayan nicely..may Allah bless u more and more…be safe …
Rauff Halday may God bless you more for your goodness
Isaac Ujene , I agree with you and not all so called Muslims are real Muslims, because their names are Muslim names doesn’t mean they are true Muslims, our maid Gemma is christian from Koronadale city, she just came back for vacation and when she was there she wanted assistance for her brother we sent her the money, her last leave we sent her almost $ US 2000, and we never deduct a single rial from her salary which is 180 rial Oman. She eat on the same table with us and cook whatever she wants. But I did rescue a Filipino maid from the neighborhood and sent her to the Philippine embassy because she was mistreated, I knew from one of my maid cousin that this Filipino maid was mistreated, and helped her ticket to Philippines. So those who do evil against others don’t consider them to be Muslims just because they are in Arab countries or have Muslim names, they don’t have a place in Islam.
Rauff Halday thanks bro I love what u are doing to that maid Allah will bless you for that. But you see my brother not every Muslims be like you.i work for a Muslim man hear in Kuwait but do you now what, i have not received my salary for the last 8month,he will give me paper to sign that my salary is in the bank after signing I will go to the bank nothing is there is that you call agood Muslim
Rauff Halday
Alice Ilacio Thank you, I am glad to hear tgat from you.
Rauff Halday Glory to God! You are a good employer. Hope many are like you…
That’s not true, please don’t misquote Islam with evil people, in Islam it is required to treat any person with all respect and Christians are regarded as people of the book. If you have any personal hatred towards Islam than that"s your personal issue, I have a Filipino maid, we treat her just like family, we pay her more than her required salary, she work according to the contract set by Philippine embassy, and we pay her two month leave salary, we also helped her parents during their sickness until their burial expenses and if you want proof I can provide you with her telephone number to clarify. Those are individual evil conduct anf tgey have no place in Islam.
…had bad experienced with the phil consulate in hk…when u have a problem and reported it to them…parang ala lang…they’ll liaten yes…pero action? deadma…parang mas favor pa cla sa mga foreign employers kaysa kapwa filipina…hay naku…sana may changes na ngayon lalo na doon sa saudi…
Total ban here in saudi is need to implement as soon as possible
