An employer faced a heavy backlash from netizens after she posted a Facebook message criticizing her domestic worker for running up her water bill by bathing too often.
The employer, likely a woman judging from her nickname “Little Cloud,” wrote in a post in Chinese on the Facebook page of Support Group for HK Employers with FDHs that she was angered by her maid bathing at 9pm on Saturday and again early on Sunday before going out for her weekly holiday.
She said such bathing habits would result in a heavy cost burden from her water bill. She also asked other employers in the group whether their domestic workers had similar habits of bathing before and after sleep.
The post was screen-captured and reposted on the Brother-Sister Facebook Club page. Little Cloud was slammed for her unkind comments about her domestic worker.
Many netizens said domestic workers had a right to take a shower when they wished, while any employer who tried to stop them was being unreasonable. Some said Little Cloud should praise her maid for being careful with her personal hygiene.
Taking a shower two or three times a day is normal if it is summer or the indoor ventilation is poor, they said.
Little Cloud was also slammed by netizens for creating a “control freak” image for Hong Kong employers. They added that the Water Supplies Department was providing water to Hong Kong residents at a low price.
Without her helper I can imagine how messy her house is. As messy as her brain for sure. Considering her helper bathing added 1 more bath per week, that’s only 4 times in a month. Even she tells it to her pet dog the dog will laugh at her. Heavy bill for that extra 4 bath? Oh! Maybe because she used to having water bill at almost zero dollars…..because maybe this employer takes her bath only one time a month. Lol

Employer should happy that their maid is in hygienic discipline and madam or sir we filipinos love to washed our body as this is our everyday routine ,of course we need to take shower on saturday nite and again take a bath before were taking our dayoff on sundays..it is our habit to take shower beforw oir reat days not like some employers are not doing to do so，they just took shower in nite time and they just go to office without cleaning their private parts ..thwy just clean their face and brush their teeth thats all (just wisik wisik) just imagine your underwear for the whole nite and still your underwear the whole day what do you think it is?still comfortable ? my employer even requires me to shower everyday but was laughing and told me that my skin will go dry when she knows that i shower 2x a day during winter and 4x during summer and just advice me to use baby lotion or cetaphil or else i get skin irritation.i just answered i am used to it thank u.
Same here in my employer..even i used so little water as 2 buckets per bath.2 buckets in cleaning the entire house and toilet..still the bills will blames on me..i even wash my cloths every 2 weeks to avoid them to be angry..where is the justifanof that! Thats why you cant blame the maids if they will not recontract.. if this kind of employer. No a/c nor tv..just fan..saklap!
