The High Court sentenced two men to 22 years and 15 and a half years in jail on Wednesday for drug trafficking and drug production.
The duo – Mahmood Ansir and Afzal Muhammad – of Pakistani origin, were arrested in September 2015 in a hotel room in Kowloon City after police seized 800 grams of cocaine along with manufacturing and packaging equipment, Sing Tao Daily reported.
The judge said the hotel room was booked by Mahmood Ansir and he was in charge of the whole drug trafficking project. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Afzal Muhammad, an asylum seeker who came to Hong Kong in 2005, had pleaded guilty to one count of drug trafficking and one count of drug production. He had a previous criminal record of drug trafficking and was the person who produced the illegal drug in the hotel room, so the judge sentenced him to 15.5 years in prison, Sing Pao reported.
According to previous reports, the seized illegal drugs had an estimated street value of HK$1.7 million (US$217,897).
