A family of six, including four children, were hit by a truck as they were walking along the roadside in Liuyang in southern China’s Hunan province. There were only two survivors.
The fatal accident happened at around 11am on October 2 in Shebang, an urban town in Liuyang. Closed-circuit TV footage (warning: extremely graphic) showed the family walking slowly hand in hand on the right-hand side of the road when suddenly, a truck crashed into them from behind,
Yueyang Daily reported on Sunday that four members of the family were killed immediately, and one was injured. Only a young child was uninjured.
The truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving after the accident. Local police did not disclose more details about the victims or the cause of the crash.
However, the police said five other people were arrested for causing trouble at the site of the accident, throwing plastic bottles at officers who were handling the case.
Police also arrested a woman for spreading a rumor on the Internet that the reason the truck driver had lost control of his vehicle was that he was being chased by traffic police.
