The Taiwan Ministry of Labor announced on Tuesday that the new minimum monthly wage of NT$22,000 (US$730) had been approved by Premier Lin Chuan before he submitted his resignation on Monday, meaning that the new pay rate will be implemented from January 1, 2018.
At its annual meeting, the Labor Ministry’s Minimum Wage Review Committee previously decided to raise the base monthly rate to NT$22,000 from NT$21,009, while the new hourly wage would be NT$140, up from NT$133, The Liberty Times reported.
The ministry said the decision had been approved by Lin and was running through the administrative procedure. Lin’s resignation would not affect its implementation.
According to Taiwan Apple Daily, it is estimated that around 2.05 million people will see their pay rise, including 420,000 migrant workers.
