A 60-year-old man died while hiking in Yuen Long in the New Territories despite efforts to resuscitate him before he got to a hospital on Saturday.

The man surnamed Wong, was with eight friends on Saturday morning to hike from Chuen Lung in Tsuen Wan to Tai Tong in Yuen Long, Sing Pao Daily reported.

Wong suddenly collapsed in mid-afternoon when they were walking on the Tai Lam Forest Track Tai Tong section. His friends immediately called the police while other hikers tried cardiopulmonary resuscitation before paramedics arrived.

The paramedic later took over the resuscitation effort on Wong, who was flown to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, but he was certified dead at the hospital.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances, but a post-mortem will determine the exact cause of death.
