A 48-year-old Hong Kong driver was arrested after a three-year-old Nepalese girl was killed in a car accident in Yau Ma Tei on Friday night. At 8:50pm, the driver, surnamed Lau, was driving his seven-seater vehicle north along Ferry Street, Sing Pao reported.
When the vehicle turned left on to Man Wai Street, it knocked down a girl who was crossing the road.
Trapped under the car, the girl was dragged for 200 meters. Lau was made aware of the accident by pedestrians on Man Sing Street.
The girl, who sustained serious head injuries, was sent to Kwong Wah Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Lau was arrested for alleged dangerous driving causing death but was granted bail on Saturday.
According to Oriental Daily, the girl, her younger brother and her father had been heading to a park before the accident. The girl crossed the road alone when her father was distracted by his son, who had fallen down and hurt himself.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the accident to contact Kowloon West district’s traffic-investigation team.
