The employers of the Singapore domestic helper who was photographed sleeping in the corridor outside their Housing Development Board flat last Sunday have stated that the incident was due to a miscommunication. The worker has corroborated their explanation.
The controversial photo was uploaded on Monday to the Facebook page “Filipinos in Singapore”, accompanied by a comment that the maid had been forced by her employers, who were away on holiday in India, to sleep in the corridor on Sunday.
The photo quickly went viral and has been shared over 4,000 times on Facebook, with thousands of commenters accusing the maid’s employers of being irresponsible, Shin Min Daily News reported.
When the maid saw on Monday that the photo had gone viral, she forwarded the post to her employers, who contacted the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore to arrange a meeting for Tuesday to allow them to explain. They said the incident was due to a miscommunication.
The maid also posted a comment on Facebook to clarify that she had decided to stay in the corridor on Sunday evening to wait for her employers, whom she mistakenly understood to be returning imminently. She said that she considered her employers to be friendly and generous toward her.
The Facebook page “Filipinos in Singapore” later took down the post and some media removed the original reports from their websites.
On a subsequent visit to the flat, a Shin Min Daily News reporter said the maid was minding her employers’ children and seemed happy.

Many employers doesn’t give keys to their helpers,many doesn’t trust their helpers,for fear of safety or whatsoever blah!blah!blah!So the helper has to wait until their employer to come home,in what time?The helper doesn’t know…..Helper tired,want to take shower & rest,can’t do it until employer comes home.
Other case in the house,the helper has her own room to sleep but full of employer’s stuff so they just come in & out or knock on her door anytime they want,even in the middle of your sleep.I experienced all that many times…
so where the maid stand..when the employer went for holiday.
whatever theirb reason is, the employer is still not good. why the maid has no key? Did the employer trust their maid? And if not intentional to let her sleep in the coridor why there are things tk be used for sleeping? because of the miscommunication you let your helper to sleep outside. Your crazy , you know that right?
Pls kabayan you can wait for them inside if you want to take rest not on the corridors.
I know the helper is scared to talk because she don’t like to lose her job, so she cover her employer
Maybe she’s afraid of her employer maybe the employer tell her not to tell the otherwise she will be in troubleor maybe some compensation just to cover up the employer.

Why the need to wait for her employers outside the flat? Does it mean she has no keys of her own? If that’s the case, her employers cannot be considered fair and friendly. I hope she ain’t a fellow Filipina 🙁
oh huh the helper should have a pair of key you know or not? how if your helper accidentally lock inside and there is no communication with you huh? see what happened misunderstanding and she’s no key then how? I really forced my employer to give me a pair of key they said it was so expensive hahaha I don’t care it’s not my problem it’s their responsibility to provide key and I am just being responsible for safety as I am responsible of my duties
whatever her reason is, this is truly an inhumane treatment and she must know her rights at least as a human being. a lot of abuses towards our fellow filipinos because they themselves let it happen to them. very sad reality "tangatangahan" lang just to keep their job.��� gising kabayan!!!
I strongly believed that Indian’s employer(not all)are treating their helpers very bad,I used to have a neighbor that her boss are indians and when they go in holiday to India they locked their fridge,not leaving foods to her,andwhentheyre here,they always count each food inside their cupboard and and inside the fridge.Ang bababoy nila,parang feeling nila ang yaman nila pero pare parehas lang namang tao,kababantot naman�

By not giving a house key to a helper speaks of what kind of employer her employer is.

Seriously….. this case couldn’t be ended unless u kabayan… just speak up the truth to MOM,,coz nobody will believed this incident was miscommunication …U have a right to tell the true not to cover up ur employer,,,..I also a helper here….and I already stay here in Singapore � for 17 years,have experienced for 3 employers,from Chinese to expat but then all of them they treated me good….
My 1st Chinese employer before,I consider not really a perfect one,but then they let me have a spare key of there flats…and I worked for them atleast 6years….the 2nd and the 3rd employer of mine they are good especially this 3rd one..they really treated me as one of there family.. and I’m Wd them for 9 1/2 years now… Also they go for a month holiday and let me stay at home Wd a spare key,food allowance,emergency money,plus ofcourse they make sure that I have a good rest as well… Coz more important between u n employer is a good communication each other & Trust……

Why not giving key to her if worries something lost can put lockers or all room lock it mostly some employer india treat to the helper is very vad…lunch time only 1chappati with vegetables….working same like a robot stay Singapore treat the maid same like a home town….every hours take meal one job even finish call to do another job……mati got job like this
Kabayan nman, there’s really something fishy smell with your situation… Pls stand up for your right. We are a FILIPINO, we shouldn’t allow other races to bully us, NEVER…. Don’t be AFRAID for your RIGHT especially if you are in a RIGHT REASON. Wag mong pagtakpan ang employer mo dahil habang ginagawa mo Yan mas malala pa ang aabutin mo SA kanila. Naku Naman kabayan hndi valid reason yang misunderstanding…. Imposible!!!! STAND UP and GO for your RIGHT.
The employer should give her a key so she can go inside. She was not allowed to stay while employer was away for holiday. What if they dont arrived on the right date? No heart nor compassionate to human being. Although the helper said they are nice employer but still trust was not there totally. Thats sad!!!
