In the latest move to reduce crime in the city, the Delhi police launched a bicycle patrol scheme on Tuesday. A fleet of 65 high-end bicycles was flagged off by the Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir at the Yamuna Sports Complex in east Delhi.
According to reports, this initiative will help increase the police presence in the more congested areas of the city.
Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav was quoted as saying: “Delhi Police has introduced bicycle patrols to supplement its existing motorcycle and PCR patrols, which focus mainly on crime prevention along main roads of Delhi.”
According to reports, the main focus of the bicycle patrols will be parks and other places where senior citizens and women spend their leisure time.
“The bicycle patrols will also be introduced near schools and campuses so that officers can have a friendly interaction with the student community,” Yadav added.
Initially, 30 bicycles will be allocated for the north-east district, 20 for the east district and 15 for Shahdara district. The scheme will be extended to other areas of Delhi at a later date.
Soon. these high end bikes will be stolen by professional thugs.
Let us wish them well. But, what is important is the will of of the govt. to enforce law.
