Undefeated Hong Kong boxer Rex Tso Sing-yu notched up his 21st straight victory by flattening Japan’s Hirofumi Mukai, the WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight champion, in the eighth round early on Sunday.
Special intensive training with star Filipino fighters Mark Anthony Geraldo and Marlon Tapales in the run-up to the context clearly paid off for super flyweight Tso.
The latest win in his phenomenal run since turning professional in September 2015 added the WBO’s Asia Pacific belt to the WBO international super flyweight and WBC Asian Boxing Council super flyweight titles he already held.

The bout started late Saturday before ending after midnight, but the timing did not deter the sell-out 8,000-strong fans watching live at Hong Kong’s Wanchai Convention and Exhibition Centre or the record 146,000 viewers catching the action in a streaming online broadcast.
Several exchanges of punches marked the start of the fight as both fighters aimed at winning as quickly as possible, Metro Daily reported.
In round two, the Japanese fighter landed a heavy punch that cost 29-year-old Tso a temporary loss of hearing in his right ear. Undeterred, he sent Mukai to the canvas in the same round.
Mukai was downed again in the sixth and had barely recovered before Tso finished the bout with a heavy punch on his opponent’s abdomen 32 seconds in the eighth. The 31-year-old Japanese slumped to the canvas, and the referee declared the fight over as Mukai struggled to regain his feet.
The bout-winning throw could have been as heavy as 400 pounds, according to Lobo Louie Hung-tak, an associate professor at Baptist University’s department of physical education, Headline Daily reported.
Tso will take a two-month rest before another match in September.
