A veteran Hong Kong hiker was in critical condition after he collapsed from a heart attack during a Sunday outing up Devil’s Peak in Kowloon and hit his head on the ground.

Since a thunderstorm warning signal was canceled at 9:30am, Lee Wing-kwan, 44, a nurse by profession, and his friends started their scheduled hiking trip from Ko Chiu Road in Yau Tong to the Devil’s Peak, Sing Tao Daily reported.

At 12:30pm, sudden rain forced the team to stop and return. During their descent, Lee slipped and lost consciousness, hitting his head on the ground.

Lee was sent to the United Christian Hospital while having cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He remained unconscious and in a critical condition and needed to breathe with a machine, Apple Daily reported.

According to his friends, Lee was an active hiker and had remained healthy despite a heart disease record. He served in the surgery operation room in Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin in New Territories. His wife surnamed Leung also works for the same hospital.
