Shooting championship in Pakistan.

For young Pakistanis wishing to excel at the sport of shooting, there are few opportunities to do so because of a lack of supporting infrastructure. In contrast, it is widely suppported in the West and is even an Olympic sport. Shooting competitions are considered an efficient way to improve youngsters’ mental discipline, imbue them with a sense of responsibility, and teach them how to work in teams.

Enthusiasts of the sport are looking forward to the first week of December, when the Muhammad Ali Jinnah Field Sports Club in Bahawalpur, Punjab province, will hold a rifle shooting championship to help promote a healthy sports culture in Pakistan.

The second Muhammad Ali Jinnah Shooting Championship will attract competitive shooters from across Pakistan and is even open to international participants. This championship will be supported by professionally developed infrastructure, including purpose-built shooting ranges and other facilities for competitors. It will be held in accordance with international rules, standards and safety regulations.

Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Syed Muhammad Adnan, himself an ardent sport shooter, is taking a keen interest in encouraging and enabling youth through innovative ventures.

The championship is unique in Pakistan because for the first time, the participants will be able to compete in extreme long-range shooting – ranges of up to 1,500 meters. The championship will include competitions for all categories of participants, including youth and women, who can register to compete in small-caliber rifle, airgun and pistol shooting matches.

The key event will bring together Pakistan’s sport-shooting industry to work in synergy with competitive shooters to create an environment that is conducive to the growth of this sport in Pakistan well into the future. The winners of the competition will be awarded medals and trophies – with the highest honor, the Cholistan Cup, reserved for the tactical rifle match.

Sports events come with multiple benefits and challenges, and shooting is no different. Rifle shooting does a lot for one’s posture, stamina, and muscle strength, as well as having positive effects on body chemistry that can improve the shooter’s state of mind. It is a wonder that more people don’t opt for this sport.
