Chinese authorities on Monday launched a promotional plan to boost the domestic baby formula industry, with more than 60% of baby formula products supplied by local companies.
The National Development and Reform Commission and other six ministries said in a statement that the authorities expect to help increase the quality of baby formula products, upgrade the industry and build brands.
In 2018, domestic baby formula products accounted for about 40% market share in China, according to data from research company Nelson. The authorities expect to increase that level to 60%.
Officials at the national quality watchdog told National Business Daily that the domestic baby formula industry is in a golden period historically, in terms of quality, with sampling pass rates of more than 99% for the last three years.
