A Filipino migrant worker was killed in a paragliding incident on Saturday while on vacation in Gudauri, Georgia.
According to his family, Bryan Vale De Guzman, 38, fell into a river filled with rocks after his paraglider malfunctioned. he was with a citizen of Georgia, who survived the accident, ABS-CBN News reported.
De Guzman had worked as a nurse in Saudi Arabia for 10 years and went on vacation with some workmates to Georgia. The group arrived there last week.
Elsie De Guzman, the victim’s mother, said their family was waiting for De Guzman’s remains to be brought home to the Philippines. She said he had called his family the night before the accident to tell them he was heading to Georgia.
Police in Georgia have not released any details of their investigation and are awaiting autopsy results. According to Georgia Online, a criminal case has been initiated under the article “causing death by negligence.”
