Southwestern China’s Chongqing municipality announced on Monday a talent scheme that aims to attract 2,000 high-calibre individuals and 500 groups to help lead the city’s development over the next five years.

The municipality wants to recruit 100 scientists, 300 experts, 900 innovative entrepreneurs, 200 people with technological expertise, and 500 talented young people.

The local government emphasized that both locals and people from other cities are welcome and will be treated equally.

As the scheme aims to support entrepreneurship, the municipality will provide financial support to individuals ranging from 200,000 yuan to two million yuan (US$28,875-$288,750).

The government will also provide 300,000 yuan to groups selected in the innovative entrepreneurship category for research and development.

Loans without collateral or a guarantee of 100,000 to 500,000 yuan will be granted to individuals.

Those selected will be granted a hukou (household registration permit), and employment and education will be provided for their spouse and children.

A municipal government spokesperson said more policies will be rolled out at a later stage.
