Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes will make his China debut with a concert at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on September 28, according to a report in China Daily.
It will be part of the singer-songwriter’s world tour in support of his self-titled album, the report said.
The previously announced Asian stops are Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Manila, Macao and Tokyo. The entire world tour spans more than 100 dates throughout 2019 in North America, Latin America, Europe, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
According to Variety, Mendes has reached high peaks in a fraction of time — 15 billion streams globally, three No. 1 albums and three Top 10 singles on the Billboard charts, global headlining tours that have seen him sell out New York’s prestigious Madison Square Garden and London’s O2 Arena and perform for 120,000 people at Brazil’s Rock in Rio festival.
The Toronto born, multi-platinum singer-songwriter rose to internet stardom as a 14-year-old by posting dozens of six-second covers of songs by the likes of Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Adele on a long-defunct social-media platform, Vine.
Mendes released his self-titled third album in May 2018. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart as well as across the globe, and shot to number one on iTunes in more than 80 countries immediately upon release, the report said.
The album became one of the top best-selling album debuts of 2018 and made Shawn the third-youngest solo artist to ever have three consecutive chart-topping albums.
“I want to push myself to my limit and play as many shows and write as many songs as I can and fly around the world 10,000 times in a year,” a youthful Mendes told Variety.
