A group of immigration officials in Indonesia were apprehended for allegedly being involved in illicit extension of tourist visas.

The head of the Mataram Immigration Office in the West Nusa Tenggara province, identified as K, was arrested at a coffee shop on May 28 by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK,) The Jakarta Post reported.

Four other officers were also taken in for their alleged involvement. The KPK had suspected that K had been taking bribes in exchange for extending the visas of tourists who had been staying at a luxury hotel located in West Lombok.

Febri Diansyah, a spokesperson for the KPK confirmed the arrests and said that the investigation was ongoing. As for the Immigration Office, a spokesperson named Junianto also confirmed the arrests.

However, he did not provide further details about the case.
