A 39-year-old Filipino man was arrested after allegedly pointing a suspected air gun at a woman he did not know on a street in North Point, Hong Kong Island on Tuesday.

At 1:20am, when the woman returned home to Empire Apartments on King’s Road in North Point, the suspect allegedly intercepted her and pointed what appeared to be a gun at her, Wen Wei Po reported.

The woman ran to the building to report the case to the police. Meanwhile, police received two separate reports of a man on the street wielding a gun-like object.

Police officers wearing bullet-proof vests arrived and cordoned off the building and surrounding streets to hunt for the suspect. Other officers checked surveillance camera footage from nearby buildings.

After an eight-hour investigation, police arrested the suspect at an apartment in Empire Apartment building.

It was understood that the Filipino man, holding Hong Kong ID, lives in the building with his wife and a daughter, Headline Daily reported.

It is thought that the suspect initially avoided arrest by impersonating a street performer playing a guitar in the crowd when the police officers arrived at the scene to search for him.

He was arrested for alleged possession of imitation firearms.
