قال الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب أن الولايات المتحدة لا تسعى لتغيير النظام الإيراني ولكنها ترغب في وقف غريمتها للنشاط النووي كلياً.
وقال الرئيس أثناء مؤتمر صحفي في العاصمة اليابانية طوكيو أمس الإثنين أنه يعتقد أن إيران على استعداد للتوقيع على اتفاق جديد، وذلك في أعقاب تصاعد في التوتر بين البلدين في الأسابيع السابقة.
كان قادة البلدين تبادلا تهديدات بالتحرك العسكري الأسبوع الماضي، بعد هجومين استهدفا ناقلات نفط سعودية ومحطتي ضخ نفط سعوديتين اتهمت الولايات المتحدة إيران بالضلوع فيهم، وهو ما أنكرته السلطات الإيرانية.
كانت الولايات المتحدة أعادت تطبيق عقوبات اقتصادية على إيران بعد انسحابها من الاتفاق النووي العام الماضي وهو ما تسبب في أزمة اقتصادية طاحنة في إيران.
