A 25-year-old woman who fell to her death from a waterfall in the New Territories on Friday morning lost her footing while taking a selfie with a group of friends, witnesses have told police investigators.

Believed to be a Filipino domestic worker, the woman hiked to the waterfall at Ng Tung Chai in Tai Po with four other people, RTHK reported. She was pulled unconscious from the water and taken to Tun Mun hospital by the Government Flying Service, but later pronounced dead.

A Filipino domestic worker who had accompanied the women to the waterfall said she fell about 15 meters down the cliff while taking a photograph, suffering head injuries. The accident happened around 11am and police were notified 15 minutes later.

One of the nine famous rivers in Hong Kong, Ng Tung Chai also has the biggest waterfall. Conway Leung Nim-ho, a hiking expert, told Headline Daily that there was a metal railing on top of the cliff and hikers don’t often climb over to take pictures.
